The project is a renovation of a private home in Malmö from 1924 in Johanneslust, a neighbourhood identified as culturally significant as a time typical example of Egen Hem.
The purpose of the renovation is to adapt the original house to modern standards, adding an extra bathroom as well as converting the attic into liveable space.
The work included a new load-bearing frame and construction of the roof so that two old dormers from 1960s could merge into one. In this way, bathrooms and a new bedroom can be accommodated on the upper floor.
Special care is taken in order to preserve proportional and material requirements of the culturally sensitive dormer. The dormer height is kept as low as possible while achieving modern insulation and energy requirements. All new construction materials used are ecofriendly and original roof tiles were cleaned and reinstalled. The construction is open to diffusion which is suitable for older buildings that must adapted to modern standards as far as energy requirements.
