The Element Office - 71 m², with Olga Mihailovich (2006 YYZ)

The long and narrow office of a mere 71 m2 on the second floor of a refurbished 19 century warehouse called for innovative approach to accommodate the interior design firm while acting as a showpiece for its clients. Challenged ged to design a hip workplace on a minute budget, the team took the uses of conventional materials to a whole new level. The design employs inexpensive off-the-shelf construction components typically found at the local building supply store. The subtle wall partitions are crafted from transparent corrugated fiberglass panels commonly commonly used for shed roofing, supported by electrical conduit tubing. The team fashioned their drafting tables by stacking pre painted MDF strips with aluminium piping for spacers. The result is a vibrant interplay of light and transparency that feels much more spacious than its narrow confines would attest.
